Finishes and solutions adapted to all development projects
After the quarry extraction, the massive natural blocks from 2 to 10 tons are received to the sawing station. Then come the transformation stages and the finishes stages.
As sawn
Products (setts, slabs, edge stones, etc.) leaving the production line after the sawing and finishing stations (1/4 round or chamfer, if applicable). They may still bear fairly slight marks left by the multiblade or disc saws. These traces will eventually disappear with time as the stones acquire their natural.
Bush-hammered or fine bush-hammered
Products passed under a rotating wheel bearing tooth of different degrees of fineness. This scores the stone, giving it a roughened appearance, the coarseness being determined by the number of teeth on the wheel. (This generates an additional gripping layer and enhances the non-slip action of the stone).
Ground
Products ground with a rotary tool and a coarser or finer-grain abrasive disc to remove the saw marks. This finish generates fine traces like scratches on the surface of the stone and gives it a mechanical patina.
Flamed
Products passed beneath a flame head. This creates a chemical reaction between the binary gases and the iron oxides in the stone, giving it a rough, non-slip appearance. The process does not alter the intrinsic qualities of the stone, but only modifies the surface layer. (This generates an additional gripping layer and enhances the non-slip action of the stone).
Smoothed
Products ground with a rotary tool and a very fine-grain abrasive disc. This finish renders the surface of the stone completely smooth. (To be used only for worktops, interior paving, decorations or monumental masonry).
Flamed and brushed
Finish obtained in two phases, flaming followed by brushing. (To be used only for worktops, interior paving, decorations or monumental masonry).
Polished
Products ground with a rotary tool and a very fine-grain abrasive disc. This finish renders the surface of the stone completely smooth and glossy. (To be used only for worktops, interior paving, decorations or monumental masonry).
Ageing of setts and walling stones
Finish obtained by passing the setts through a tunnel. They knock against each other, eroding the sharp edges and giving the sett an older, more rustic look.
Brushed
Products having the visible face of the stone brushed with a rotary mechanical brush equipped with diamonds. This operation creates a texture on the stone while smoothing it. (To be used only for worktops, interior paving, decorations or monumental masonry).
Angles hammered or dulled
Light mechanical pressure is applied to the angle with a rotary or percussive pneumatic tool to chip it and give it an aged appearance.
1/4 round
Products (slabs, kerbstones, etc) mechanically milled to round the angle. The radius of the ¼ can be varied, 1.5 – 2 – 3cm according to the customer’s wishes.
Chamfer
Products (slabs, kerbstones, etc) mechanically milled to flatten the angle. The radius of the chamfer can be varied, 1.5 – 2 – 3cm according to the customer’s wishes.
